Coordination of Initial Training Network “Machine Learning for Personalized Medicine” moves to D-BSSE
ETH Zurich is the new coordinating organization of the Marie Curie Initial Training Network on “Machine Learning for Personalized Medicine” (MLPM2012). Prof. Borgwardt from D-BSSE continues to act as the Scientific Coordinator of the network. Its goal is to train 14 highly qualified early-stage researchers in the fascinating and rapidly emerging field of Machine Learning in Personalized Medicine.
MLPM2012 is a European consortium of 12 universities, research institutions and companies, funded by the European Union within the 7th Framework Programme (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions) with 3.75 million Euros. Each of the partner institutions is hosting and training at least one young fellow in this interdisciplinary field at the interface of Machine Learning and data-driven Medicine. “Our vision is to bring Machine Learning and Clinical Data Analysis together, in order to choose the optimal treatment for patients based on their molecular properties. For this enormous challenge, the field needs researchers that are experts in both, Machine Learning and Biomedicine” describes Karsten Borgwardt, Professor of Data Mining at D-BSSE and Scientific Coordinator of the network. “However, there is a lack of these interdisciplinary specialists. Our ITN aims to close the gap by training a new generation of researchers that are experts in both fields.”
MLPM2012 started on January 1, 2013 and was formerly coordinated by the Max Planck Society, Germany. With Professor Borgwardt’s move to the D-BSSE, ETH took over the role as coordinating organization on January 22, 2015. Ms. Birgit Knapp from D-BSSE is the Administrative Coordinator of the network, while Prof. Borgwardt continues to be its Scientific Coordinator.
