SNF Eccelenza Grant for Felix Franke

Felix Franke received an Eccelenza Professorial Fellowship for 5 years from the Swiss National Science Foundation. Eccellenza Grants are for highly qualified young researchers to build an independent group.

Felix Franke

Felix Franke received an SNSF Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship for his proposal titled "Understanding early visual processing in the context of eye-movement control". In his scientific project he intends to characterize responses of identified retinal-ganglion-cell types to well-specified visual stimuli and to build phenomenological models of the retinal circuitry to explain those responses. He will focus on the oculomotor feedback loop and the optokinetic reflex, which helps to stabilize the visual scene on the retina. He will build his group and perform the project work at the new Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (external pageIOB).

external pageSNSF Eccellenza Professorial Fellowships are aimed at outstanding researchers in all disciplines who have a doctorate or equivalent qualification and are pursuing an academic career, but who have not yet obtained an assistant professorship. The fellowships replaced the SNSF professorships. Researchers can request their own salary at the level of assistant professorships as well as project funds of up to 1 Mio CHF for five years.
