Our group is developing and applying the tools and methods of Biological Computing and Synthetic Biology in the mammalian context. Our research rests on three pillars. The first is fundamental exploration and enabling technology development for precise manipulation and reprogramming of mammalian cells. The second pillar is applying these tools to unmet needs in biotechnology. The third pillar is translational research and the development of gene and cell therapies powered by biological computing.
Group Head
The group head is Yaakov "Kobi" Benenson. He received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Chemistry from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Computer Science and Biological Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute of Science. As a Bauer Fellow, he was an independent group leader at Harvard FAS Center for Systems Biology in the years 2005-2010. He joined ETH Zurich in 2010.
