Facing the challenges of big biological data analysis
No doubt, there are great opportunities in analysing big data. However, the analysis of hundreds of millions of data points also poses significant challenges to bioinformaticians. Scientists from University of Basel and our group developed a novel machine learning tool which facilitates the automated scheduling of large biological data sets to high-performance computing clusters. The developed software makes several machine learning algorithms for big data accessible to a broad user base.
CBG @ ISMB/ECCB 2019
We are excited about ISMB/ECCB, the world's largest computational biology and bioinformatics conference, taking place in Basel this year. Our group will participate and contribute in various ways.
Epistasis in Drosophila melanogaster fitness
In joint efforts with the Ludington Lab at the University of California, Berkley, and collaborators, researchers in the Beerenwinkel group quantified forms of epistasis in Drosophila melanogaster fitness landscapes. The resulting article “Microbiome interactions shape host fitness” appeared in PNAS.
