Substrate-binding changes the mechanical stability of the sugar transporter MelB

The results of the collaborative research project between our group and the Guan lab from Texas Tech University have been published in Structure.

Nina Blaimschein and colleagues determined the mechanical stability of the sugar transporter MelB in the presence and absence of substrates (see picture). These findings contribute mechanistic insights to the alternating-access model for the symport of sugars and cations.
