BEL partner in new NCCR aimed at fighting antibiotic resistance

New National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) "AntiResist" includes University and Hospital in Basel and ETH groups (Department of Biology and D-BSSE). The aim of this NCCR is to find new antibiotics and develop strategies to combat antibiotics-resistant bacteria.

The NCCR "AntiResist: New approaches to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria" will establish an interdisciplinary center for antibiotics research in collaboration with researchers from the University of Basel as well as the University Hospital of Basel. The aim is to search for new antibiotics and to develop alternative strategies to combat antibiotics-resistant germs. The aim is to link basic research directly with clinical research.

The background is the progression of antibiotic resistance, which is increasingly threatening global health and posing an ever-increasing problem in everyday clinical practice. The consortium will work with patients to develop new strategies. Using specific tissue culture models will help to realistically replicate human infection in the laboratory in order to discover novel targets for antibiotics. The research work forms the basis for developing new drugs with the pharmaceutical industry.
