Brain Diseases

external pageBrain diseases come in different forms. Infections, trauma, stroke, seizures, and tumors are some of the major categories of brain diseases. We try to contribute to elucidating some of the disease mechanisms as far as the diseases affect electrical activity patterns of neurons or neuronal networks.

Our high-density microelectrode array (HD-MEA) devices allows for querying neuronal network dynamics repetitively at high spatio-temporal resolution. Questions related to neuronal connectivity, spike coding, and plasticity can be addressed in dissociated neuronal cultures or organotypic slices grown on top of our microelectrode array devices.

Using our technology, we are studying the network characteristics of neural disorders, such as schizophrenia, which exhibit disruptions in oscillatory patterns.
