Local data policy

Maintaining clean local data drives

In an effort to secure and maintain freely available local storage capacity on SCF microscope acquisition PCs for ongoing experiments, we have developed a local data policy as follows:

Starting February 2022, unused local data on SCF microscope data drives will be periodically migrated to network-based medium-term storage:

  • Any files not accessed in the previous 90 days will be moved to the N-drive, for safekeeping an additional year (in the SCU space)
  • This is done for drive cleanup purposes, it is not intended as a means for long-term user data storage
  • If users need access to local data that has been moved, they can contact us at
  • Local data that is migrated to the N-drive and remains unclaimed for another year will be deleted!

We kindly remind SCF users of the following:

  • Local data on the acquisition computers is not backed up and not intended for longer term storage
  • SCF users themselves are responsible for their data following acquisition
  • We offer different solutions to move your data to longer-term storage:

           a) Strongly recommended: use the Annotation Tool (oBIT) to easily move your data to a centralized openBIS database

• easy transfer, annotation, in-browser data access & visualization

b) Not recommended: manually move your data to an accessible network space (e.g. personal or group network drive)
