Experimental evidence of how the different neuronal compartments (soma, axons, dendrites) contribute to extracellular-electrical-signal landscape is provided in new study published in Advanced Biosystems.

BEL spinoff, MaxWell Biosystems AG, founded 2016, moved up to rank 22 in the Swiss Top 100 Startup Competition 2018. MaxWell was one of the top 5 Biotech companies.  

BEL spin-off Zurich Instruments, now an enterprise with 50 employees, was featured in issue 3/2018 of ETH Globe "SMEs & ETH" in an article entitled "Instruments for high-end research".

A. Hierlemann appointed guest professor for 5 years (2018 -2023) at Southeast University in Nanjing, China, in the Faculty of Engineering. Southeast University was established 1902, is supported by the central government, and is one of the level-A universities in China.  

Our microelectrode array technology greatly contributed to find out how diverse retinal functions arise from feedback at first visual synapse. Six distinct effects in response characteristics of ganglion cells were found as reported in Neuron.

Fernando Cardes from University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain, was awarded ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowship (CHF 230'000) and will join our group in July.

SRF covers our work on microtisssues in a contribution and radio broadcast entitled "Living organs on a chip" describing paradigm shifts in medical research and compound testing.

New paper in Advanced Biosystems on immobilizing micro-tissues in hydrogel drops for 3D imaging with two-photon microscopy.  

Michele Fiscella presented as one of the young entrepreneurs under the headline "From research project to startup" in the 35th and final issue of the X-Letter magazine of SystemsX, the Swiss initiative in Systems Biology.  

BEL spin-off company Validity Labs, providing education and training in blockchain technology, received ETH-spinoff label.
