Assessing the compatibility of simultaneously administered drugs

The increase of drug-drug interactions in patients treated with multiple medicines, requires the development of new methods to detect and avoid such complications. Researchers associated with the Bio Engineering Lab, led by Andreas Hierlemann, present an in vitro test system that includes different tissue types in a microfluidic environment. The system enables qualitative and quantitative assessment of metabolism-related drug-drug interactions of anti-cancer prodrugs and anti-retroviral compounds.
