VMB Digital Campus
This is our internal seminar series to foster scientific exchange and collaborations inside the institute. A great platform for PhD students and PostDocs to present and discuss their work!
Lunch lotteries
To connect our department beyond the borders of individual research groups, VMB started a regular Lunch Lottery. Sign up in our next email and let the wheel of fortune determine with whom you will enjoy your next lunchbreak.
Starting Autumn 2022, we are also organizing a joint lunch lottery with the external pageBiocenter and the external pagePharmacenter of the University of Basel. Are you looking for a way to get to know other PhD candidates, Postdocs, Professors or scientific staff from different science departments? Would you like grabbing a coffee or sharing lunch with someone new and from another research institute? Interested in enlarging your network, but you don’t know how? Then don't miss this perfect occasion! Extra bonus: We periodically raffle food vouchers.

Master Match
Do you have an exciting thesis project? PhDs and PostDocs can join the Master Match to pitch their project ideas. It is typically held twice a year (during the end of Spring and Fall semesters) to advertise available projects to the Masters Students of D-BSSE and beyond, and give the interested Masters Students a chance to talk and connect with their potential future supervisors. The goal is to make it easier for you all to find a good Masters Student, and for them to find a fitting project for them! If you have a project that would be suitable for a masters thesis or short term rotation, keep an eye out for emails advertising Master Match to sign up!
Networking events in between the Basel life science institutions
To stay connected within the Basel life science community we organize common scientific events with Apero and Poster Session. Come over and exchange ideas with colleagues in our near surroundings!
Organization of Scientific Seminars
Is there someone in particular you'd wish would come to D-BSSE for a talk? Just let us know and we will try to make it happen, we are collecting your suggestions to invite Guest Speakers external pagein this form!
VMBoffees
We have great news! VMB has the amazing possibility to use the fancy coffee machine in the science lounge! As we would very much like to get to know you all better, and give you the chance to get to know us and each other, we want to invite you to have a delicious cappuccino, espresso or lungo with us. (If you are not that much into coffee, we also have a variety of tea 😉)

Newcomers events
Every 3-4 months, VMB organizes events (Newcomers Lunches or Pub Crawls) to help new members of D-BSSE to get to know each other. At the same time, we provide some information about what the association is working on at the moment and how it can support their personal and professional development at D-BSSE.

Do you know everything? Or are you Jon Snow? Do you like to test your knowledge with a beer and your friends? Whatever it is, team up with your (invisible) friends, colleagues or pet and join our Pub Quizzes. And don’t miss out our Special Editions!
VMB Hikes
VMB is planning a series of hikes. If you also love nature and being outdoors with cool people, join us for a hike. No matter if you prefer short walks with fun activities or more challenging mountaineering, there will be something for everyone.
Annual General Assembly Party
Every year VMB will make a party to celebrate a successful year with all PhDs and Postdocs!
Enjoy the party! We will have games, food and drinks so come socialize!

Ski Weekend
After a way too long corona break, we are already starting to organize the Ski Weekend 2022/23. Info will follow… Stay tuned!
Beer brewing
VMB also organizes Beer Brewing sessions (temporarily suspended during the Corona pandemic). These sessions are previously announced to the whole department via email and usually take place on a Thursday (simultaneously with the Pint) or Friday evening. If you are lucky you can get a taste of it at our General Assembly Party and at of our Christmas Potluck.
Beer & BBQ
In summer, VMB is also planning to have regular beer and/or BBQ sessions at the Rhein or in one of Basel's many beautiful parks… Feeling inspired? Reach out, we are looking for motivated people to help setting this up!
