Politics

The VMB politics team works on all issues regarding regulations, codes and ordinances governing staff life.

The scientific staff at D-BSSE has official representatives with voting rights in two departmental panels:

  • Departementskonferenz (DK)

The Departementskonferenz (DK) is the highest organizational unit of the department. It oversees administrative affairs, teaching activities, strategic scientific planning, and the awarding of PhD titles.

  • Unterrichtskommission (UK)

The Unterrichtskommission (UK) monitors, advises on, and takes action regarding the department’s teaching activities and ETH study programs. This includes lectures, exercise classes, and the AP and VP. The UK also provides input to the DK on curriculum changes.

Representatives for these panels are elected at the VMB General Assembly. In principle, all members of the scientific staff can run for election or vote for DK and UK representatives, regardless of their VMB membership. In practice, DK representatives are usually also active in the VMB and form the VMB politics team.

The VMB politics team focuses on regulations, policies, and ordinances that shape staff life. Its members attend AVETH political meetings, draft official communications, and propose new regulations. They also help define the VMB’s stance on ETH initiatives, such as the latest measures to enhance doctoral education.

Your DK and UK representatives are always keen to hear your concerns about departmental policies and to advocate for the needs of the scientific staff in official bodies. Feel free to reach out to us!
